Booklaan Seller Agreement
Last updated November 2026
This agreement governs selling on Booklaan. By submitting a seller application you accept it on behalf of yourself or the business you represent.
1. Eligibility
Sellers must be 18 or older, located in the United States, and able to complete identity and tax verification through our payments partner (Stripe). Businesses must provide a legal name and EIN; individuals provide their SSN or ITIN to Stripe only — Booklaan never stores it.
We may decline or close any account at our discretion, including for prohibited items, repeated performance failures, or misrepresentation.
2. Listings
You may list only items you own and have in hand. Every listing must describe the specific copy for sale, graded on the standard or collectible scale in our condition guide, with all defects disclosed. Collectible listings require at least three photographs of the actual copy.
Prohibited: counterfeit or pirated media, items you do not possess (drop-shipping), stolen property, and items whose sale is restricted by law. Stock photos may not be used for collectible listings.
3. Fulfilment standards
Orders must be handed to the carrier within your stated handling time (at most 2 business days) with tracking uploaded on Booklaan. Buyer messages must be answered within 48 hours.
Performance targets measured over trailing 90 days: order completion ≥ 95%, on-time shipment ≥ 96%, seller-caused cancellations ≤ 2.5%. Accounts below target receive a warning, then a listing hold, then closure.
4. Fees
Plans: Starter — $0/month, 12% commission on item price; Professional — $19/month, 9% commission on item price; Volume — $59/month, 7% commission on item price. Payment processing of 3.5% applies to the full order amount (items, shipping and tax). Monthly plan fees are charged in advance to the card on file and prorated on upgrade.
Commission is not charged on shipping or sales tax. Fees are deducted before payout; there are no listing fees.
5. Payments and payouts
Buyers pay Booklaan. Net proceeds for an order are released to your Stripe connected account when you mark it shipped with tracking, and paid to your bank on the weekly payout schedule (Fridays) once at least 3 days have passed since shipment. The first payout may be held up to 7 days for verification.
Refunds and chargebacks are deducted from pending proceeds, and from future payouts if necessary.
6. Sales tax and reporting
Booklaan is a marketplace facilitator: we calculate, collect and remit sales tax on every order in every state where we are required to, and you do not collect sales tax on Booklaan orders. Stripe files Form 1099-K for accounts that exceed the federal thresholds (currently $20,000 and 200 transactions) or any lower state threshold.
7. Returns and disputes
Buyers may return any item within 30 days of delivery. For items not as described, damaged, or wrong, you pay return postage and refund in full on receipt. For change-of-mind returns the buyer pays return postage. You must respond to a return request within 2 business days; otherwise Booklaan may approve and refund on your behalf.
Booklaan decides escalated disputes; its decision is final within the marketplace.
8. Data and integrations
API keys and webhooks are issued to you and may be shared with inventory software (such as BookzPro) acting on your behalf. You remain responsible for everything done with your keys.
Booklaan may use order and listing data to operate the marketplace, prevent fraud, and produce aggregated statistics. Buyer personal data is provided to you only to fulfil orders and may not be used for marketing.
9. Term and termination
Either party may end this agreement at any time. Open orders must still be fulfilled or cancelled with refund; pending proceeds are paid out after the final return window closes. Plan fees already paid are not refunded.
10. Liability
Booklaan is a venue. You are the seller of record for your items and responsible for their description, legality and delivery. To the extent permitted by law, Booklaan’s liability to you is limited to the fees you paid in the preceding three months.
Governing law: the State of Delaware, USA. Disputes are resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis.
